Interview on Blue Planet Live with Prof David Pond

During a week of live programmes on the BBC, Blue Planet Live celebrates marine life around the globe to explore the health of our oceans.

During episode 4 first shown on Thursday 28 March 2019, Prof David Pond is interviewed about the importance of copepods in the oceans. David explains how these zooplankton are an important source of food for commercially important fish species, especially herring and mackerel, and how the copepods are responsible for producing the omega 3 fatty acids that are ultimately transferred to the fish and our diet.

David Pond is the lead investigator of the DIAPOD project. This project focuses on the role of copepods in the Arctic Ocean, how climate change is altering the availability of these animals, and their role in the global carbon cycle.
