Dr Matthias Fuchs

Matthias is a postdoctoral researcher in the CACOON project. He currently based at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Potsdam, Germany.

Matthias conducted a PhD in Geosciences at the Alfred Wegener Institute and a Master in Physical Geography at Stockholm University. His work focuses mainly on carbon and nitrogen stock estimations in thermokarst-affected permafrost soils and Arctic river deltas by a combination of field, laboratory, and remote sensing methods. This includes many participations in Arctic land expeditions to Alaska and Siberia, in particular also to the Lena delta region.

In the CACOON project, Matthias works on compiling bathymetric maps for the Lena and Kolyma river delta shelf areas, and he leads and organizes the CACOON summer 2019 expedition to the Lena delta region.
