Dr Damian Arévalo-Martínez

Affiliated postdoctoral researcher, GEOMAR

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Chemical Oceanography Department of GEOMAR in Kiel, Germany.

I’m a sea-going chemical oceanographer interested in the biogeochemistry of trace gases. In particular I focus on the marine distribution and sea-to-air fluxes of climate-relevant gases like N2O, CO2 and CO.

My approach includes development and field deployment of high-resolution measurement systems based on cavity ring-down spectroscopy, as well as the use of several chemical and biological methods to elucidate the processes responsible for the source/sink dynamics of these gases in the ocean.

In the PETRA project, I study N2O production pathways and its emissions to the atmosphere in subpolar waters of the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean.

PETRA is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and by NERC.
