Mark is a biogeochemist specialized in early diagenesis of marine sediments. His research interests cover the coupled carbon, iron and sulphur cycles and their response to changing environments, the degradation of organic material and the formation of methane in the seabed.
His toolbox contains inorganic geochemistry and isotope geochemistry lab techniques as well as reactive transport modelling. His research areas are as diverse as the high Arctic, the subarctic Gulf of Alaska, the tropical Mozambique Margin and subantarctic Chilean Patagonia.
